In the midst of the recent rains and floods that have affected Kenya and the East Africa due to El Niño phenomena, we are saddened to share that Masai Mara has also suffered the consequences of the force of the water, when on May 2nd the Talek River burst its banks causing extensive damage to the zone.
More than 20 camps in Talek/ Sand River area have been severely affected by floods, disrupting their operations. However, amidst the chaos, there emerges a silver lining – the remarkable efforts of everyone to ensure the safety and well-being of all affected, as well as the resilience and unity displayed by communities, organizations, and the government in all the job on the ground.
Despite the ongoing rains, there is an unwavering spirit of positivity and hope that permeates through the Mara. We recognize that storms may rage, but they will eventually pass. And when they do, the Mara will once again stand tall, ready to offer its unparalleled safari experience to visitors from around the world. The sun will shine again soon and the amazing Mara landscape will take us to one of the most unique wildlife experiences.
Here at Enkopiro, we are fortunate that our area has been safe and not affected by the floods. In solidarity with our fellow camps, we are committed to providing assistance and support until they can resume their normal operations. In times like these, we are reminded of the power of unity: together we are stronger.
” if you saw Atlas, the giant who holds the world on his shoulders, if you saw that he stood, blood running down his chest, his knees buckling, his arms trembling but still trying to hold the world aloft with the last of his strength, and the greater his effort the heavier the world bore down upon his shoulders — what would you tell him to do?”
“I … don’t know. What … could he do? What would you tell him?”
“To shrug.”
